Yellow Medallion Jacket

So this is the jacket I started working on in Spring 2011 - now, the day before my birthday (Oct 8), I finally finished it.  It is the same EXACT jacket pictured on the cover of the pattern of Simplicity Lisette 2209:

I usually don't copy the exact design (I mean really, isn't that the point of making your own clothes) but this jacket was so cute.  I love yellow - so happy!

So why did it take so long?  After several frustrating attempts at sewing the collar on the right way (not upside down or inside out - not sure what was wrong with me that day) I quit on it.

Had I looked at the directions, I would have realized that all I needed to do to complete the jacket was add the button.  ONE BUTTON!  Not even button holes. Anyhow, I finally finished it and here it is :)

And some poorly lit pics of me modeling it in the bathroom mirror (classy... I know).  In any case, it's cute and I can't wait to wear it around!

First Dress!

This week I attempted and finished my first dress!  I love the pattern - Simplicity Lisette 2209 Passport Dress (I am making the jacket soon!)  This black and white gingham fabric was my "practice" or "experimental" version, and a good thing too!  I realized the skirt needed some alterations AFTER I attached it to the bodice (suffice to say, they didn't happen... haha) and I may or may not have had to seam-rip myself out of the dress after the first fitting, having convinced myself that I didn't need the side zipper and could just pull it over my head.  Well pull it on yes, but off, no.  You know the feeling - when you have tried on something that you don't think you may ever be able to get yourself out of again!  Haha.  Anywho - this is the finished product!  I think it will be a perfect casual fun dress, especially under a bright colored cardigan like yellow or purple!

Spring Skirt

Now for some clothes I might wear in public... Haha.  This skirt was made using a Simplicity pattern.  The green and white floral print is from JoAnns and feels great!  In the creating of this skirt I had a lot of firsts:  1st skirt I have made, 1st time sewing in a zipper, and 1st time making pockets.  It was a great learning experience, and now I have a cute skirt to wear for the spring!

My Custom Dress Form!

Today I attempted to make a duct tape double of myself - with the help of my hubs :)  The idea/directions for this project came from this Threads article.  Here is the supply list/cost of what I used:

Long T-shirt and "Mock Turtleneck Bib" or whatever you want to call it (Salvation Army) $0.50
2 60-yd rolls Multipurpose Scotch Duct Tape (Target) $12
3 10-yd rolls Black and White Baroque Duck Tape (Target) $12
Scissors
Carboard (from an old box)
Polyester Stuffing (had already)
Sharpie (Is there really any good project that doesn't require use of this?)
Wooden Hanger (IKEA) $0.50

TOTAL COST = $25!!!

Here are some pictures of the process:
The first layer, top half

3 full layers later we start the fancy tape - It was getting REALLY hot!

Cut it off already and hang it on a hanger (View from back)

Stuff it and cover the holes - VOILA!

Now while it may look to have been a breeze, there was a lot of sweat and tear-ing of duck tape that went into this!  It took a good 1-2 hours just to tape the form, then after it was cut off, finishing it was about another hour.  However, it was totally worth it.  I have an almost exact replica of myself (which is kind of creepy) - same bust, waist, and hip measurements - same torso length - even same one shoulder being higher than the other (can you tell which one? :)  Just to make sure it worked well, I tried one of my existing outfits on it -

Crazy, yeah!  It fits it exactly the same as it fits me - even the waist of the skirt is a little big!  (And yes, in case you are wondering, that is the shower - where else am I going to hang it - the closet it full of clothes! Lol)

Another great thing (that I didn't plan) is that it spins around really smoothly b/c of the hanger, so I can easily fix and alter from all sides.

Altogether, a very successful endeavor - Now on to making some clothes!!!

My Venture Into the World of Fashion - Pajama Shorts!

So for my first sewing project that would eventually (hopefully) turn into clothing, I decided to make some easy pajama shorts.  The fabric is snuggle flannel from Joann's.  They are super comfy :)

My Shorts - Blue/Green Bird Print on White
Here they are on!

I liked them so much, I made for some my MOM!
She loves purple, and giraffes :)

Sewing Machine Cover

After a while of not much sewing, I decided that my next project should be a sewing machine cover.  That way, Archibald wouldn't get dusty while he was waiting around for me to catch a bit of creative spirit :)  So I made this sewing machine cover, with the help of the following websites:

http://www.christinechitnis.com/2008/11/sewing-machine-cosy-tutorial.html

http://chezlarsson.typepad.com/myblog/2008/10/sewing-machine-cover-how-to.html

The fabric is from fabric.com (my new favorite website).  I originally bought it to make a decorative pillow, but liked this idea much more.  The fabric isn't quite as stiff as it probably should have been, but who cares?  It's cute! :)

Yellow & Gray Floor Pillows

My latest project - Floor Pillows! These pillows are 27X27.  The gray and yellow dandelion fabric is from IKEA. I used white piping around the edges.  They are "reversible" as in, one side is yellow and one side is gray :)

My second sewing project - a pin cushion!  It's a little crooked, but I love it :)

I used this free pattern from Heather Bailey:  Square Deal Pincushion

Bird Couch Pillows

My first official sewing project - Couch Pillows :)

Our couches have been in sore need of some good pillows, however slate blue is a hard color to find pillows for.  Found the perfect fabric at IKEA - black with multi color birds and flowers.  I made three pillows total - size 18X18.

Happy New Year

Hello 2011!  And the beginning of my blog - the quirky peach.  This blog will be a little quirky and a little peachy, but altogether just fun.  I hope to post some of the cool things I do over the year, like sewing projects, culinary attempts, workouts, shopping, beauty - a little bit of everything!  Mostly it's so I don't forget any of it, but I hope any of you readers out there enjoy it too!
